Unfortunately, we didn't take a picture, but Kevin and I went out for our first real date since Julia's arrival this past Friday for Valentine's Day. It was especially nice considering we had been hibernating in the house for a week due to the ridiculous Maryland snow. When we got to the restaurant, we realized it was the same exact one we had eaten at last year for Valentine's Day (which made us feel a little like old people!). It was actually a really reflective experience, since it made us think a lot about everything that has changed since last year when we had sat in the same place, hopefully not eating the same menu items! Last year, we were living in an apartment, had no idea we'd be having a baby that year, and Kevin was just beginning to adjust to his new job. Eight hours of sleep was an every day occurrence, and going on a date did not require a week of planning. This year, while we ate dinner, we marveled at how odd it was that we didn't have to rock a swing, take turns at pacifier duty, or get up to tend to an inevitably fussy baby (what baby does not fuss during dinner ?). But this Valentine's day, we were able to share our love with a new little family member, whose smiles are just beginning to light up our home--and I think that is worth all the craziness that comes along with it.
